ALIGNING INNOVATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: THE POWER OF MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS
Medical research institutions not only conduct innovative research and provide unparalleled benefit to patients – they also produce considerable economic impact within their communities. A 2022 study found that medical schools and teaching hospitals are responsible for roughly 3% of the U.S. GDP and support over 7 million jobs. With the evolution of therapies that require proximity between, or co-location of, research and the patients receiving healthcare, these institutions are playing an increasingly important role in the creation of novel therapies to treat cancer and other diseases. Ariel Gruswitz of Facility Logix will explain the unique value and ever-increasing prominence of these institutions in state and regional economic development efforts.

ADAPTIVE REUSE FOR LIFE SCIENCE FACILITIES: THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BIG BOX STORE
Explore the profound impact of innovative thinking and the surging demand for life science facilities on the future landscape. In the wake of global health crises, the life science industry is undergoing a remarkable transformation, ushering in a new era of expansion.
However, a critical question arises: where can we find the necessary space for these cutting-edge endeavors? This is where "adaptive reuse" comes into play, presenting a groundbreaking concept that breathes fresh life into neglected spaces. Envision former retail giants transformed into state-of-the-art laboratories and research hubs, as exemplified by pioneers like Strang who have already demonstrated their potential in converting former retail spaces into thriving laboratories.
This visionary approach not only addresses the pressing spatial requirements with agility but also redefines sustainability by repurposing existing structures. Delve into the realm of adaptive reuse, where ingenuity converges with necessity, fundamentally revolutionizing our approach to both space utilization and scientific innovation.
