Crescent City Lingo or Coming to “Terms” with New Orleans

  • Banquette: Sidewalk.
  • Cajun: Nickname for Acadians, the French-speaking people who migrated to Louisiana from Nova Scotia, starting 1755.
  • Cities of the Dead: New Orleans ‘above ground’ cemeteries.
  • Directions: There is no West, East, North or South. New Orleans head uptown, downtown, lakeside and riverside. And anywhere the music is.
